Dr D P S Chandrakumara

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJP) is pleased to announce that the 5 th International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences will take place on 10 th and 11 th November 2016 on the university premises in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The theme of IRCHSS- 2016 is  Transformation for Empowerment: Moving beyond Buzzwords’. I hope you will find the pages on this website informative on how you can join us in communicating your research findings to the world.

The faculty welcomes all researchers belonging to positivist, interpretive and social critical theory paradigms and those who have completed their investigations within a cross paradigm approach. The development of countries at present is largely dependent on the new knowledge that directly or indirectly contributes to uplift the quality of life of people. In order to direct research in such a momentous path, the academics should conduct research in partnership with practitioners, and with the support of relevant ministries. I hope that the Conference Chair and the organizing committee of IRCHSS-2016 would lay foundation for such a change making a turning point of the research of FHSS.

Welcome to IRCHSS-2016 and may your time at USJP be both fruitful and enjoyable!

Former Dean’s Message ( Until 30th June 2016)

Mr. C.L.K. Nawarathna

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), previously the Faculty of Arts, being the pioneering faculty of the University, has been  offering all round quality education to all its students,  while advancing the general mission of the university, and creating and disseminating knowledge for the enhancement of the nation.

Our conception of the mission of the FHSS is vast and audacious. While helping our students flourish intellectually and as human beings, the FHSS, above all, prepares its students to live meaningfully in a pluralistic democratic society, and to face the global society with strength and confidence. The FHSS, while creating a rich academic environment to its students, also seeks an open environment where researchers, policy makers, students and the public see themselves as active participants who take intellectual risks for empowerment. In this regard, the International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) is a promising effort.

The International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences-2016 (IRCHSS-2016) is the fifth consecutive international research conference organised by the FHSS. It highlights the tremendous significance attached to research and dissemination of knowledge. In pursuit of innovation and enhancement, it enables scholars and professionals around the world to showcase their novel perspectives on diverse issues. The conference marks a salient milestone of the FHSS, and highlights the vibrant enthusiasm of its members’ engagement in research and mutual critical discussion with local and international academia.

The conference is an inspiring academic event !
